Breaking Barriers: First Female Apprentice Thrives at Specialized Projects
In a significant step towards gender equality in the trades, Specialized Projects has welcomed its first female apprentice, Morgan (Mori) Hearder. Mori, who has always had a passion for creating and working with her hands, is making waves in the male-dominated field of carpentry.
Mori’s journey into carpentry was not without its challenges. Despite her clear interest in hands-on work, she was often steered towards more traditional paths such as office work, university, and jewellery making. However, Mori’s determination and the support from our organisation have paved the way for her to pursue her true calling.
Sue Black, the ACT Manager, played a crucial role in facilitating Mori’s apprenticeship. “We are thrilled to see Mori thriving in her new role,” Sue said. “Her enthusiasm and skill are a testament to the importance of breaking down gender barriers in the trades.”
Jim Dietrich, Mori’s employer at Specialized Projects, is equally impressed. “Mori is a fantastic worker,” Jim said. “She brings a fresh perspective and a strong work ethic to our team. We are proud to be part of her journey and to support her growth in the carpentry trade.”
Mori’s success is not just a personal achievement but a significant milestone for the industry. It highlights the potential for more women to enter and excel in trades, bringing diversity and new ideas to the workforce.
As Mori continues to develop her skills and contribute to Specialized Projects, her story serves as an inspiration to others who may be considering a career in carpentry or other trades. The future looks bright for Mori and for the industry as a whole.
