Canberra Student Balances School and Trade Qualification with School-Based Apprenticeship
Canberra student Lachlan De Rooy is proving that it’s possible to kickstart a career in the trades industry while still completing his secondary education. Currently in Year 12, Lachlan is pursuing a Certificate III in Light Mechanical Technology through a school-based apprenticeship, a program that allows him to build his skills, earn a qualification, and continue his education simultaneously.
One of the most appealing aspects of this program is that Lachlan will be earning a salary throughout his apprenticeship. This financial benefit is further enhanced by the Australian Government’s support, as Lachlan and his employer have qualified for financial assistance due to his training in a priority occupation within the Clean Energy sector.
Sue Black, our ACT manager, recently met with Lachlan and his employer to finalise the sign-up process. Sue ensured that all the necessary arrangements were in place for Lachlan’s training, which will be conducted by the Registered Training Organisation (RTO) Motor Traders Association.
