From High School to High Impact: Courtney Bonell’s Inspiring Journey
In a world where making a difference starts with taking the first step, young trainees like Courtney Bonell are leading the charge. Courtney didn’t wait for the final school bell to ring before diving into her career in business. She completed her Certificate II while still in high school and, without missing a beat, secured a traineeship with Mandana, a pioneering organisation based in Chinchilla, QLD.
Joining Mandana as a Trainee Program Support Officer, Courtney quickly became an integral part of the team. Her role has been far from routine, involving a diverse array of projects that have left a lasting impact on the local community. Mandana, which has been championing sustainable employment for First Nations people and mentoring employers of all sizes in the Darling Downs region since 2021, has provided Courtney with a platform to grow and thrive.
Mandana’s success is a testament to the power of collaboration. The organisation has partnered with the Darling Downs and South West Regional Office for Regional Economic Development and South State Development to facilitate this training. The Australian Trade Training College (ATTC), a not-for-profit Registered Training Organisation (RTO) and part of the IntoWork Group, will deliver the training program.
Our team at Mandana has been instrumental in supporting both the trainee and the employer. We ensured that Courtney was enrolled in her Certificate III in Business and that all aspects of her training were in place. Since then, Courtney’s weekly routine has been a blend of hands-on experience and structured learning. She spends two days a week on administration tasks and the rest of her time shadowing the Regional Development team as they explore the biomedical and health industries in the region.
Courtney’s role has given her the opportunity to visit key sites, including the Warwick Drone project and Wellcamp Airport. These experiences have not only broadened her horizons but have also equipped her with practical skills and a deeper understanding of the region’s economic landscape.
The Mandana team has been impressed by Courtney’s significant progress, particularly in her communication skills. She has gained the confidence to ask questions and speak up, qualities that are essential in any professional setting.
“The impact of this traineeship is profound, showcasing how providing opportunities to young individuals can reshape their career paths,” said Allison Cullen, the Workforce Development Consultant who oversaw the sign-up process. “Courtney’s journey exemplifies the transformative power of such initiatives, hinting at a bright future where she may continue to excel in regional development or contribute to Mandana’s program growth as a valuable ambassador.”
