From Office Job to Heavy Machinery Operator: Scarlett Picket’s Journey of Pursuing Her Passion in Trades

Scarlett Picket didn’t hesitate to leave her office job to pursue her true passion in operating heavy machinery.

While working in her father’s surveying business, Scarlett decided to explore job opportunities in the construction industry. She eventually found a position in Bordertown, a small town in South Australia, and made the bold move from Adelaide to become an apprentice.

During her Certificate III in Civil Construction, Scarlett had the chance to explore various fields thanks to additional modules added by her training provider, Civil Skills. These modules helped her gain knowledge about – and operate – heavy vehicles and obtain relevant licences and tickets for her future career.

“I am lucky. I don’t think I would get the same opportunities in the city. The team have been amazing in training me on the job,” Scarlett shared.
