Riverland’s Rising Star: Marley Courtney Blazes Trail in Fabrication
In the heart of Riverland, a 17-year-old powerhouse is making her mark in the world of fabrication. Marley Courtney, a proud Kaurna woman and aspiring engineer, has just clinched the Apprentice of the Year award at the prestigious NAIDOC Week Riverland Awards—and she’s only eight months into her Certificate III in Engineering.
Marley’s winning formula? A powerful combination of punctuality, eagerness to learn, and a proactive attitude that’s setting sparks flying at her workplace. “It’s incredibly rewarding to see my hard work being recognized,” she shares. Her journey began in high school, where she discovered her passion for metal tech. With encouragement from friends and support from Mas National, Marley secured a fabrication apprenticeship with SA Water in Berri.
Today, Marley is more than just a team member; she’s one of three dynamic women making a significant impact on-site. She attributes her rapid growth to SA Water’s supportive environment and her senior colleagues. “I’m learning so much every day. The team here is fantastic, and I genuinely enjoy every moment,” she says.
For those considering a fabrication apprenticeship, Marley has a clear message: “Go for it! The only thing holding you back is yourself. Every ‘no’ brings you one step closer to a ‘yes.’ I was initially turned down for a hairdressing apprenticeship, but that setback led me here, and I couldn’t be happier.”
From setback to success, Marley Courtney is proving that passion, dedication, and a can-do attitude can light the way to a brilliant future. Keep an eye on this rising star as she continues to shine in the world of fabrication.
